A day in the life of a Blue Skies Recruitment Consultant

Jordie Grist

Jordie Grist

Hi, my name is Jordie and I work in the DM team, super servicing (one of the key Blue Skies values) clients and candidates alike. On a daily basis, my role's a bit like mixing a cocktail - it takes a client, a brief, plus a selection of well chosen candidates and then shaken with a few interviews to produce the perfect blend. If not properly managed, this recruitment process can be really messy, timely and enormously stressful for both parties. I'm here to ensure an efficient and effective recruitment process - whilst hopefully putting smiles on people's faces along the way.

8.15am
Candidate meeting at Waterloo Station, manage to find each other easily enough! Bags of integrated experience so talk through a couple of potential opportunities.
9.15am
Dash over to meet client in our Tottenham Court Road office to chat about the Blue Skies' offering and go through two new permanent briefs.
10.30am
Head back to the Richmond head office - wearing the new heels I bought on the weekend, all good so far - no blisters! Read latest copy of Marketing and Campaign on the way to keep up to date on industry news. Get a call from a client to say the 3rd interview they had with one of my candidates went extremely well - they'd like to offer him the job! Call the candidate as soon as I get to the office. He's stoked!
11.00am
Put in a couple of calls to key candidates giving them updates whilst scrolling through emails. A brief has been sent through from a new client... give them a call to confirm the details and send them our T&Cs.
11.15am
Search through my existing candidate files to see who will match the brief and call those who I think might fit the bill. With candidates' permission, I send through the CVs to the client.
11.30am
Look for candidates for another brief as I've just had a call from the client, they didn't think the two candidates they interviewed earlier in the week were quite right so it's back to the drawing board.
11.45am
Internal team meeting to discuss servicing of live briefs, new candidates, client business development plans and also marketing activity.
12.25pm
Pop into Top Shop/Ted Baker for a peek and grab a Prêt sandwich on the way back.
12.55pm
Get a call on the mobile from a client, they want to shift back the interview they organised to next week. Arrgh, hope my candidates can make it!
1.00pm
Write candidate profiles for an upcoming client mailer. Send to team leader for approval.
1.30pm
Contact all clients to let them know the status of their briefs. Ask those pending decisions on 1st and 2nd interviews to confirm, and then call candidates straight away to let them know the outcome.
2.15pm
Sit down with the marketing team to talk through possible ideas for future ad campaigns and discuss advertising spend for the next three months. Give feedback on response from last campaign so we can judge impact.
2.45pm
Continue going through my list of prospect clients and calling to introduce myself. Add those I've called to my recipient list for candidate profile mailer to demonstrate the breadth of quality candidates I'm currently working with.
3.45pm
Write up copy for an ad in next week's issue of Marketing. Find it hard to stick to the word limit!
4.00pm
Candidate meeting here at Richmond, no meeting rooms free so head down to Starbucks for a coffee. She's a great candidate who I know will fit a brief I have. Call the client immediately after I've sent through her CV - they agree and want to interview her next week!
5.00pm
Update online ads and post to job boards.
5.30pm
Go through today's applications to my online advertising. Filter top candidates and upload their CVs to our database and make a note to call them first thing tomorrow morning. Send emails out to those that we can't unfortunately help.
6.30pm
Another freelance brief comes in, but as I've just left the office, I send an email to the client from my XDA, and put in a reminder to call them first thing tomorrow morning.
7.00pm
Arrive at the pub for a well deserved glass of wine.
