Sital Banerjee of Philips has said that some media agencies need to provide better career development.

The global media director of electronics company Philips has expressed concern that some media agencies are not doing enough to educate new or young employees, reports Campaign magazine.

During a conference at the Venice Festival of Media, Sital Banerjee said that he was worried about an apparent "lack of basic knowledge" in the media and marketing industry, with many young or inexperienced employees seemingly unaware of basic concepts.

Speaking about young planners in particular, he told Campaign magazine: "If they don't know what's behind the software and processes they are using, they don't understand the why and how, then what value can a planner really add to strategies?".

Mr Banerjee went on to say that agencies should take care to provide thorough career development for their employees.

The Venice Festival of Media is being held from April 13th to 16th and involves over 800 delegates from the worlds of advertising, media agency networks and content developers.

Blue Skies Marketing Recruitment works on behalf of both permanent and freelance agency and in-house candidates across the creative, design and branding, digital, DM, events, experiential, integrated, PR and sales promotion sectors.
