Media festival discussions on agency problems

The Festival of Media is continuing in Venice, with agency bosses discussing how problems could be overcome.

Solutions to problems within the media agency market have been discussed by chief executives at the Venice Festival of Media, reports Brand Republic.

The worldwide chief executive of MindShare Dominic Proctor said that clients' haggling over the price of services is holding agencies back from making progress.

"We must get away from this reliance on driving down price through procurement. We're all talking about how important it is to invest in the future and then getting into a haggling match over whether clients pay two or three per cent for our services," he said, according to Brand Republic.

Mainardo de Nardis, chief executive of Aegis Media, presented a discussion in which he warned that media agencies are "not good at taking risks", saying that companies should be less hesitant in their decision-making.

An executive from electronics giant Philips yesterday said that he feels some agencies are not providing sufficient training for their more inexperienced workers, according to Campaign magazine.
