Salary survey shows Britons' bonus expectations

A study has discovered that some British employees expect up to £100,000 in bonuses this year.

New research has found that the current difficult economic climate has not affected workers' expectations regarding payment of bonuses, reports Personnel Today.

According to a survey by Investec Private Bank, average bonus expectations stand at around £14,600, while 294,000 people thought that they should receive between £50,000 and £100,000.

Meanwhile, a hopeful 84,000 employees expected to receive £100,000 or above in bonus payments.

The survey also showed that men expected to receive more than women, with average figures of £19,500 and £8,400 respectively, according to Personnel Today.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that average earnings including bonuses for UK employees rose by 3.7 per cent in the 12 months up to February 2008.

The number of people in employment for the three months up to February 2008 was 29.51 million, the highest figure since comparable records began in 1971.
