Designers urged to be more innovative

British designers should embrace innovation and use their skills to challenge and change had design, Kenneth Grange claims.

British designers are being urged to become more innovative and fight about issues they care about.

According to Kenneth Grange, British designers should follow the example of their French counterparts and try to "move design on" rather than regurgitate the same work, Design Week reports.

The former partner at Pentagram told the Meeting Of Minds event at the British Museum in London that designers have "the skills to make changes" if they think something is "terrible".

Mr Grange pointed to the increasing branding of the London Underground turnstile, which he suggests has "defaced" an outstanding example of product design.

At the same event, Martin Lambie-Nairn claimed that designers should be brave enough to reject deals with clients where design excellence may be compromised.

Research by Prontaprint has found that three-quarters of businesses in Britain are currently causing confusion to customers with their company logos, with many companies failing to place enough importance on brand identity.
