Social networking 'not used enough'

A software provider has pointed out the valuable uses of social networking in marketing.
Businesses could be missing out on a valuable marketing tool in the form of social networking, it has been claimed.
According to a spokesperson for software provider SPSS, company owners could reap the benefits of the boom in usage of sites such as Facebook by performing customer surveys, reports Precision Marketing.
New research by the company found that almost 90 per cent of businesses do not use the sites in this way, despite the fact that 82 per cent use them for other forms of information.
Colin Shearer, SPSS senior vice president of market strategy, said that business owners need to become clued up on this practice in order to keep pace with marketing trends.
"Businesses need to recognise and capitalise on the shift towards social networking or they are missing vital insight. Typically, consumers are more candid on social networking sites and tend to reveal their true feelings about a company or service," he said, according to Precision Marketing.
SPSS provides predictive analytics software and has over 250,000 customers worldwide.
