Online videos 'a valuable marketing tool'

Marketers could capitalise on the increase in online videos, it has been claimed.

Online videos can be a valuable tool in direct marketing (DM) campaigns, as long as certain criteria are met the E-Commerce Times reports.

This is according to Peter Hamilton of ArteWorks Search Engine Optimisation, who said that the marketing industry is likely to experience a boom in online video usage thanks to sites like YouTube and Google Video.

Recent figures from comScore suggest that online video viewings have amounted to ten billion viewings per month in 2008 so far, a fact which marketers could capitalise on.

In January 2008 alone, nearly 79 million users watched over three billion videos on YouTube.

Mr Hamilton said that campaigns could use this as an advantage to boost search engine optimisation, as long as the content and the quality is as high as would be expected for other channels.

"By following these basic protocols and constantly seeking new avenues for attracting viewers, video can be an extremely successful form of online marketing," he said, according to the E-Commerce Times.
