The Design Council has announced that it is to implement changes in its structure.
David Godber, former director of Nissan Europe is to replace Harry Rich as deputy chief executive of the Design Council, it has emerged.
According to Design Week, the group will also promote Andrea Siodmok to chief design officer and Lesley Morris to interim designer of the UK Design Skills Alliance, Design Week reports.
It is hoped that the new structuring will help to promote design and its skills to young people in schools.
Mr Godber, who has previously worked for Audi and Lotus, will begin his new position on June 2nd.
"Design is moving firmly to the centre of policy as governments around the world seek to secure competitive advantage within the global economy. These new appointments will help us drive policy, deliver programmes and support industry, education and the wider design community in the UK," said Design Council chief executive David Kester.
The Design Council was established in 1944 as the Council of Industrial Design to promote the improvement of product design within British industry.
