The design industry could receive funding from the government, it has been reported.
The design industry could be in line to receive a major funding boost from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), it has been reported.
A spokesperson from the organisation told Design Week magazine that a proportion of a £200 million fund earmarked for skills improvement could be provided for the design sector.
This could benefit the IT sector, which would include the field of digital design, as well as finance, construction and science, among others.
"Design could be a key part of the new expenditure. Funds are likely to be channelled towards the technology-driven end of design," the unnamed spokesperson said.
It is expected that John Denham, secretary of state for innovation, will meet with advisers in June in order to decide where best to apply the funds.
The DIUS aims to improve skills by encouraging innovation in all sectors through new technologies and improved public services. Its aim is to make the UK the leading place in the world in which to be an innovative business, public service or third sector organisation.
