Email will continue to be a popular means of communication, a spokesperson has said.

In what could be interesting news for marketers, a spokesperson for the Internet Advertising Bureau has said that email will continue to be the best form of communication on the web for some time due to its easy access and benefits.

Programmes manager Jack Wallington said that no other facility has the same openness and simplicity as email, a fact which has helped it become ingrained into our everyday lives.

"Email is cheap and it is universal - you can always contact someone with an email address. No other means of reciprocal communication on the web can claim to do this," he said.

Me Wallington added that as email on smartphones becomes more affordable, email could even replace text messaging.

According to a survey by Habeas, 67 per cent of respondents prefer email to other online communications such as video and instant messaging and 65 percent believe that they will continue to do so for the next five years.
