UK ad spend on the up

Advertising spending broke the £19 million mark in the UK in 2007, according to a new report.
UK advertising spending rose by 4.2 per cent last year, according to the Advertising Association.
Total spending reached £19.4 million in 2007, as reported in the association's Advertising Statistics Yearbook 2008.
Some £7.7 million was spent on press advertising over the course of the 12 months, with the fastest growing media for advertising revenue being the internet, with an increase in spending of 39.5 per cent.
Other growth areas were cinema spending, which rose by 10.1 per cent, and outdoor and travel spending, which increased by 4.6 per cent.
In related news, advertising spending within the eurozone is expected to increase by 3.9 per cent in 2008, despite the current economic malaise, according to the Advertising Association.
Analysts said they believe the Beijing Olympic Games and the UEFA Euro 2008 football championships will stimulate advertising spending.
