Graduates 'should consider recruitment agencies'

Graduates should consider approaching recruitment agencies when job-hunting, it has been suggested.

A spokesperson for Graduate Prospects has said that those leaving university should consider approaching a recruitment agency to better their potential of finding an appropriate job.

Jayne Rowley, publishing director of the company, said that graduates will have more choice when job hunting if they identify a number of different resources.

"Agencies sometimes handle vacancies exclusively on behalf of recruiters where [they] don't have the time or resources to handle the volume of applications and the recruitment process, so it's always worth including them as part of a graduate's strategy," she commented.

Figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency showed that there were 319,260 first degree graduates in 2006 to 2007, compared to 315,985 the previous year.

Some 42 per cent of these graduates achieved their qualification in a science discipline, the same as in the previous year.

In addition, 57 per cent of first degree graduates in 2006 to 2007 were women, the same as in 2005 to 2006.

Blue Skies Marketing Recruitment works on behalf of both permanent and freelance agency and in-house candidates across the creative, design and branding, digital, DM, events, experiential, integrated, PR and sales promotion sectors.
