The BBC has appointed a new director of audio and music.

Broadcasting giant the BBC has announced that it has appointed Tim Davie as its new director of audio and music output.

Mr Davie, who is currently fulfilling the role of communications and marketing director, will replace Jenny Abramsky, who is leaving the BBC after 39 years.

The creative role will see Mr Davie taking responsibility for BBC radios 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live and the digital music channels 1Xtra, 6 Music BBC 7, 5 Live Sports Extra and the Asian Network.

He will also oversee the creative output for the classical divisions, such as the BBC Proms.

Mr Davie said he was pleased with his new role.

"As a passionate advocate of radio, I am excited by the challenge of continuing to deliver not only distinctive BBC services, but also to support the growth of the medium as a whole across traditional and digital platforms," he commented.

Director-general Mark Thompson added that he hopes Mr Davie's knowledge and proven commitment to radio will become evident in his new position.

The BBC changed all of the BBC Radio logos in 2007 and all stations are now called "BBC Radio...".
