News International convinces advertisers newspapers are still a worthy cause

News International's Clive Milner - in his role as chairman of the Newspaper Marketing Agency - has spoken out about the positive aspects of advertising in the printed press.

Advertising is facing a short term decline in revenue, as the credit crunch and talks of recession pull companies into introspective organisations, unwilling to invest in speculative costs such as marketing.

And with the printed press deemed failing due to lowering newspaper sales figures, Mr Milner has a hard task of maintaining marketing investment.

But, with investments of "more than a billion pounds just in plant and machinery" in order to create full-colour newspapers, and "hundreds of millions of pounds across the newspaper companies" going in to new website design, the press has more going for it than it has been given credit for, Mr Milner has stated.

The point was made that there are now 95 million unique users of newspaper websites each month, with 35 million of those coming from Britain, and that this should not be seen as separate from the printed press.

Such rhetoric is promising for the advertising industry, as it reaffirms that there is still life left in one of the greatest advertising platforms the country has to offer.
