Social care latest in a line of sectors suffering from poor recruitment due to dull image
Many industries are becoming aware that their public image is holding them back from fulfilling goals, thanks to a lack of graduates hoping to join sectors that appear dull.
Construction has already acknowledged its need to re-brand itself as a sector in which a diverse group of people can grow and face challenging issues, and now social care is too taking a look at its image.
Moira Brown, HR director at Care South told Personnel Today: "I don't think graduates see social care as a career opportunity."
Speaking about the government's target to increase the social care workforce from 1.3 million to 2.5 million, Ms Brown added: "We've also got an ageing population, so where is that workforce going to come from? It's not so much a skills shortage, as a people shortage."
The problem is that social care has suffered from a negative image for too long, and graduates are now looking to more 'cutting edge' industries to apply their talents.
An innovative marketing campaign aimed at attracting graduates could be a solution to such critical issues, as without some form of attraction to the sector, there will be larger problems facing it in the future.
Blue Skies Marketing Recruitment works on behalf of both permanent and freelance agency and in-house candidates across the creative, design and branding, digital, DM, events, experiential, integrated, PR and sales promotion sectors.
