We’re into the new year!
2019 was a blast, right? With the comings and goings in politics and Brexit hanging over our heads it’s certainly been a roller coaster. Our agency clients have unfortunately not been immune to the unstable economic conditions, with their revenue and growth dependent on the success of their clients. This has led to some agency re-structuring and changes to recruitment strategies.
Due to these changes, we have had some excellent, experienced candidates returning to the job search.
The increase of project work rather than retained has provided more freelance contract opportunities, which has been great for the experienced candidates who are being snapped up to plug the gap in the new projects.
This has also led to agencies looking for Business Development specialists to help bring in exciting new clients and work. This is a great time for candidates with that area of expertise!
As has been the pattern over the last few years, digitally focused projects/campaigns and roles are on the rise. Niche skillsets such as SEO and PPC are becoming more sought after so that agencies can deliver the absolute best digital campaigns for their clients.
The agency internal recruitment teams have gone from strength to strength and we’ve seen an increase in lead times and vacancy planning. This has really improved our relationships with some clients, as they feel more comfortable than ever that we will help them find the perfect candidates when they have identified the areas they want to expand.
Candidates are more than ever appreciating their relationship with us on a longer term, recognising the level of help we can provide. They have more actively looked for advice, about roles for them, as well the trends and patterns in their industry in general. We love being able to connect with our candidates and assist in any way, so seeing this progression has been lovely!
For the upcoming year, I’m expecting there to be a continuation of the steady growth in digital Client Services roles, with paid media (including SEO and PPC) being a rising skill. We will also be expecting to see more fluency between PR/social roles and Client Services roles, with digital expertise becoming increasingly important.
