Market update - June

I am pleased to say the market is starting to feel like it is picking up and we are seeing the first signs of stabilisation since February. Led by an increased demand for creative freelancers and interim digital marketeers!

There are two major factors to this;

Return to work - businesses have begun to open their doors again and whilst operating safe practises they are returning employees from furlough. This is kick starting projects that had been paused for those with the budget and market confidence to grow.

Urgent work – there is a sense of urgency across some of our sectors, those who are having to adapt to changing customer behaviours and those who are supporting the businesses that are re-opening are having to move quickly to deliver in time.

In both cases the demand sits mostly for creative freelancers and interim digital marketeers who can demonstrate a track record in effective remote working. Our blueskies creative and marketing freelancers who are experienced at remote work and have a suitable home office infrastructure have been able to adapt quickly to client needs and deliver results quickly and effectively.

June 2020 has only seen a small number of permanent appointments, a number of our clients are considering whether now is the time to invest in their marketing talent. Most businesses are having to re-evaluate their situation and the potential impact the present economic downturn will have.

However, the marketplace is candidate rich right now and for those businesses that can, securing the valuable talent is fast becoming a priority.

Digital Marketing appointments appear to be leading the way. This signals rising demands on digital departments as businesses fight to adapt to virtual working and web based sales and business development. We have been encouraging our candidates who have the time to continue to develop their digital skillsets, using online learning such as Google's digital garage.

We are fierce advocates of the UK’s marketing, creative and digital industries and have seen the transformational power of great campaigns and the success it can bring to organisations that invest in it. It’s been difficult for us to see so many of the most talented marketers and creatives being made redundant and we are doing all we can to support our network at this time.

This past month is a positive start towards a brighter future for us all. We are working night and day to do our bit to help kick start the economy and move as quickly on the opportunities available right now, as well as help our network plan for the future.

As always we continue to shine a light on the incredible marketing and creative talent we have within the UK.

If you would like to talk more about the market and your specific requirements please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
