Wye Valley Brewery

A family owned independent Brewer operating in rural Herefordshire, Wye Valley Brewery offers a range of award winning beers including brands with a strong regional following in The West Midlands and Wales. The brewery sells over 8 million pints a year through a large free trade pub customer base plus 7 tied houses. Their bottled ales are sold through independent retailers and major multiples throughout the region and to export.

Wye Valley Brewery required an experienced Marketing Manager to join their team at the companies head office in Stone Lacy. It was an extremely diverse and varied role involving both consumer and trade marketing, including a significant investment in point of sale materials to support their pub customers. The role required someone with broad experience across communications, advertising, digital and design, requiring the post holder to work across both strategic and tactical levels managing both existing campaigns whilst developing new ones as well.

Strong experience and understanding of the fast-paced world of FMCG from an agency background, as well as in-house retail marketing experience, is what really set the successful candidate apart from the sea of other applicants. The candidate was instantly attracted to the role due to the kudos of working with such a well-known brand and was excited by the prospect of being in a hands-on and dynamic environment, so it really was the perfect match for everyone involved.

"As an established and expanding brewery, Wye Valley Brewery is perfectly located in one of the UK’s prime hop-growing regions; however, the drawback to being based in rural Herefordshire can be the difficulty in attracting talented candidates with specific skills for key roles.  After several months of searching, blueskies not only found us a candidate who had the right experience to take on the role as Marketing Manager, but also the right attitude; in her short time with us she has really hit the ground running, taken a steep learning curve in her stride and is making a genuinely valuable contribution to the business already."
